Kent castle’s sculpture captivates art lovers

OUR public art series takes on an international theme this week with a sculpture by Jonathan Hateley entitled ‘Releasing’.
The artwork can be found within the rambling grounds of Scotney Castle in Kent in England.
The medieval castle is set on its own moated island. More correctly it is a medieval, moated manor house; parts of which date back to the 14th century.
It has been described as ‘fairy-tale like’ by amateur and professional photographers who flock to its grounds entranced by the picturesque gardens and crumbling ancient castle remains.
Mr Hateley said he wanted to depict autumn in a positive way when creating the artwork.
“I wanted the autumn figure to be letting go of all the baggage that had built up over time with a large expel of breath, ready to start again afresh,” he said.
The sculpture has been crafted in hand painted bronze and is exhibited within the Scotney Castle’s 780 acre estate.
