Battle to contain Kooralbyn fire continues
1 min read

Firefighters will be looking to make the most of what could be the last day of favourable conditions as they battle to contain a blaze that has been burning in the Scenic Rim for days.

Fire crews spent the night on Wednesday back burning in the Green Hills Road area between Kooralbyn and Allandale as they continue their efforts to keep the bushfire to the rugged and inaccessible hills in which it has already consumed more than 5,300 hectares.

Rural Fire Service incident controller Kaye Healing said the plan was to protect property and lives by containing the fire with aircraft and fire breaks.

The Bureau of Meteorology expects temperatures to reach 29 degrees and south easterly trade winds to continue.

“They’ll probably start the day reasonably light and then see those east to southeasterly winds will pick up into the afternoon, up to about 25 kilometres per hour,” BoM meteorologist James Thompson said.

Mr Thompson said there was only a very slim chance of any rain hitting the fire ground.

Temperatures are expected to rise above 30 degrees from Friday through to Monday.

Residents in affected areas are being told to keep an eye on the situation and have their bushfire plans ready.
