Rural firies say their urban counterparts and SES volunteers have joined their calls to ditch the government agency which oversees them.
An independent review is currently being conducted into Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, which oversees both urban, professional firefighters and their rural, volunteer counterparts, as well as the SES.
Rural Fire Brigades Association Queensland general manager Justin Choveaux has been a vocal critic of QFES, signing a submission to the review calling for the body to be “dissolved”.
The rural firies say they want a new structure that empowers local brigades, rather than dictates rules to them from afar.
Now they say their calls are being echoed within the emergency service providers in QFES.
