THE men and women who volunteer to assist in the event of a fire emergency gathered at Dugandan Park on Saturday to take part in practice drills.
Rural Fire Services Boonah Group Officer Trevor Turner said a number of different brigades came together once a year to practice working as a team in the case of a widespread fire situation.
“Individual brigades train at least once a month but major exercises like this happen once a year because it takes a lot of work to get these things together,” Mr Turner said.
“It is an opportunity for volunteers to come together and practise their skills for when there is a busy fire season.
“Today we have nine different brigades from the Boonah group.”
He said some of the Warrill View firies taking part had to leave midway after getting a fire call out.
The exercise was held at Dugandan Park so the public would be able to see what training involved and how the firies were preparing for fire season.
“One of the reasons why we are here is so that the community can drop in a say hello,” he said.
“I set up a community education tent where people can talk to one of our educators, which is particularly useful for people new to the area.
“Do you know about the permit system?“Do you know what the yellow trucks are for? “These are all the questions we answer on days like these.”
