RMCM brings Seattle’s indie scene to Aus
1 min read

SEATTLE-BASED indie folk-rock band Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners played Brisbane’s The Triffid last Tuesday delivering their first performance in Australia for the tour.

The band, made up of longtime friends Mitch Cutts, Nic Haughn and Jakob Ervin, showcased their signature blend of folk melodies intertwined with rock energy.

The evening’s setlist was a testament to their evolving discography, featuring tracks from their not-yet-released album, Colorado’s On Fire Again, including “Santiago” and “Berry Herrman”.

Fan favourites “Lucerne” from their RMCM album, “October Moon” and “Northstar” had the small but dedicated audience matching them lyric for lyric but it wasn’t until sensation “Evergreen” that everyone below the age of 30 whipped their phones out and pressed record.

The Triffid, known for its intimate atmosphere and stellar acoustics, served as the perfect backdrop for the evening; the venue’s ambiance complemented the band’s wailing instrumental tones, creating an immersive experience for attendees.

Special guest Adam Newling set the tone with an outstandingly funny stage presence in his opening performance, warming up the crowd and setting the tone for the night.

Fans expressed their appreciation for the band’s authenticity and approachability. One attendee shared a memorable encounter, noting the band’s down-to-earth nature as they mingled with fans before the show.

Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners’ Brisbane debut was a blend of heartfelt lyrics, and top-notch musicianship.

And just to add a little bit of local flavour, the set was ended with a “shoey” by some of the band members, something they have repeated throughout their Australian tour.
