“It early became apparent that when the nearer supplies of logs were exhausted it would be impossible to transport the necessary millions of feet of logs from Flying Fox and Price's Creek, Beechmont and Upper Coomera, over roads that existed in name only, so consequently the Company [Lahey Bros] had to face the building of a system of tramways to tap the more distant areas. This involved driving a short tunnel through the Darlington Range and the first section of the system was put into operation in the year 1901.”
