TREES planted in Mill Street Rosewood have been lost to vandalism, development and natural process according to the Ipswich City Council.

But it has promised to rectify the vandalism and to offset the loss.

“Unfortunately, some of the planted trees were subject to recent vandalism, this senseless act is extremely frustrating for council and the community,” Cr Kate Kunzelmann said.

But trees planted to replace those lost may not be the same species as suitable plants are not available.

“This initial project was in response to community requests for additional greenery in this area, and it aligns with our strategy to see Ipswich as a clean and green city, where our natural environment is interconnected,” Cr Russell Milligan said

“A total of 37 trees were planted as part of this project in October 2021. Plantings included Hoop Pines, Flame Trees, Pink Trumpets and Crows Ash in October 2021.

“The trees were aimed at improving the aesthetics of Mill Street as there was no other noticeable vegetation or greenery.

“The trees will be reinstated as soon as possible and steel powder-coated tree guards we are currently trialling in other areas through our Urban Greening Program will be installed in an attempt to help prevent further vandalism.”
