Line fishing will be banned in a number of rivers and their catchments from Sunday.
The annual ban runs through to October 31 and is enforced by Queensland Fisheries in a bid to protect one of the region’s premier freshwater fish, the Mary River Cod, during its spawning season.
The closed season applies to the Albert River and tributaries upstream from the junction of Canungra Creek and Albert River, including Canungra Creek.
Also included are Running Creek and Christmas Creek and their tributaries at the top of the Logan River Catchment and the Stanley River and tributaries upstream of the Somerset Dam and the Coomera River and tributaries upstream from the junction of Guanaba Creek and Coomera River, including Guanaba Creek.
Further north, the ban also applies to the Mary River and its tributaries.
