How to celebrate your 80th birthday? It was an easy answer for Boonah’s Daphne Gillett – a ride on a Harley. And she knew just who to ask – her friend John Volke, who she had met when she was working at the Boonah Hospital and later when she was selling raffle tickets for the fire brigade. John and his partner Sharon had done up a Harley and a sidecar especially for Anzac Day this year and on occasion gift a ride on the eye-catching bike. “Happy to do it,” said John. On Friday, Daphne’s birthday, they rode up to Hospital Hill to take in the scenery and then went on to Lake Moogerah and back through Kalbar and Boonah. “It was lovely,” said Daphne who had gone on an impromptu ride for her 70th. Her day was made complete with a morning tea with friends and a birthday cake win through RimFM.
