Helicopter crashes into dam at Tarome
1 min read

A helicopter involved in water bombing a bushfire has crashed into a farm dam at Tarome on Wednesday afternoon around 3.00pm.

Boonah Police report that the pilot, who was the only occupant, was not injured in the crash.

According to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), it is understood that the helicopter was undertaking water collection at the time of the crash and was hovering close to the water when it hit the surface and rolled. The pilot managed to extricate himself from the helicopter and swim to the surface.

The aircraft was engaged by QFES to work in support of a fire burning at Tregony, which has been burning the past several days.

Police and all emergency services were called to the scene.

"The cause of the crash is unknown at this time," a QFES spokesman said, "and QFES will assist the Australian Transport Safety Bureau with its investigation."
