Record nominations for the Kalbar Australia Day Awards
3 min read

MORE than 80 nominations have been received for the Kalbar Australia Day Awards.

The annual awards presentations, held in the open air at the Kalbar Showgrounds on Wednesday, January 26, have always drawn a ‘crowd’ of nominations and well wishers and the event is set to follow the upward trend again in 2022.

“It is very obvious that Australia Day in Kalbar has come of age and is considered an important community event,” said Wilson Neuendorf, one of the organisers of the event hosted by the Kalbar Baptist Church.

“The number of nominations for the different categories has increased dramatically and the nominees are from every corner of what was the old Boonah Shire.

“Many thanks to all who have nominated a family member, friend or someone who you consider is making a worthy contribution to the community in which they live.”

The event will follow the tried and true format.

“The Fassifern Lions will serve a free Aussie breakfast from 6.15am to 7.30am and the Freiberg Family will again be providing the musical entertainment.

“The Australia Day address will be given this year by the Fassifern Salvation Army’s Captain Wes Bust.”

Captain Bust was the recipient of the 2021 Community Leader Award.

“Wes has endeared himself to the Fassifern community through his tireless community and religious activities and we believe he is a worthy choice to bring this year’s Australia Day address.”

The presentation of the awards across the five categories will begin at 8am.

Wilson added that the event was designed to cater to the Summer weather and the pandemic.

“We always aim to complete the presentations before the heat of the day and our tables and chairs are set out in the open air and in the shade.”

Wilson said the Kalbar Baptist Church was proud to organise the event each year.

“As Australians, no matter where we go or who we listen to, there is one message that is constant and one which we can be justifiably proud – Australia is the greatest place in the world to be and to live.

“On Australia Day we celebrate our worth as citizens of this great nation and give thanks for those who laid down the firm foundation that has given us our way of life.

“We come together to give thanks for our freedom, our past, for those who have endured the tough times to provide the future we now claim as our own.”
