A 19-year-old Warrill View man has died following a head on crash between his ute and an oncoming semitrailer on Monday night.
Preliminary information suggests the teen, driving a maroon Toyota Hilux south along the Cunningham Highway at Warrill View, attempted to overtake a truck and crossed to the other side of the highway, colliding with a separate oncoming semitrailer just before 10.30pm.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said tragically, the teenager died at the scene despite crews best efforts.
“Five crews attended the scene including a rescue helicopter and the High Acuity Response Unit,” she said.
“[The 19 year old] was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The truck driver was uninjured and did not require transport.”
A Forensic Crash Unit investigation is underway while police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash, with or without dashcam vision or anyone who may have observed the utility prior to the collision to come forward.
Investigators are making a specific appeal for the driver of the truck the utility attempted to overtake moments before the collision to come forward.
