Amazing atmosphere, fantastic volunteers help break all Country Day records
1 min read

AN estimated 7,000 to 10,000 people packed Kalbar’s main street for the annual Kalbar Country Day on Saturday.

“It was a massive crowd,” said an exhausted but happy Don Young, who is the President of the organising committee, the Fassifern Lions Club.

“There were more than 170 stalls on 238 sites running all along the street as far as the school.

“That’s a record and we’re hoping to have raised a record amount to share with all the community groups involved in making the event happen.”

Records aside and the completion of a huge event that ran without mishap, foremost in Don’s memory is the atmosphere.

“People seemed more than happy to be there – out in the country in perfect weather – they all seemed to enjoy themselves.

“It was a delight to be involved and to receive so much positive comment,” said the retired policeman.

“Crowd behaviour was fantastic.”

Also “fantastic” was the support the Club received from the community.

“You can’t put on an event like this without a lot of help and we couldn’t have done it without the support of the Harrisville Lions and all the Kalbar community groups – what an amazing community we live in when all these people are prepared to volunteer their time.

“It was a real coming together of the town and broader community.”
