Mullet comb back sparks new category

TWO young boys with mullets visited the Boonah Show and the ticket taker said ‘the party’s out the back’.
In case you hadn’t noticed, mullets have made a comeback.
Mt Walker mum of three Melanie Rowe has two sons and both sport the quintessential mullet hairstyle.
Mel and her boys caught the attention of Boonah Show secretary Beth Hern, when they attended last year’s show.
The story goes that Beth quipped ‘next year we should have a mullet competition’ and the idea was born.
Mel didn’t need to ‘mullet over’. She agreed on the spot and went one step further asking the Fassifern Bombers Junior Rugby League Club to sponsor the competition.
The Club agreed and so place getters will be awarded ‘mullet trophies’ created especially for the occasion.
A mullet growing competition is a first timer at the Boonah Show.
It’s a competition requiring a special kind of training.
Clippers or scissors banned from the back but welcomed on the sides, because the longer the back the better the look.
The Rowe boys have been growing their mullets for some months now and each have a decent ‘do’ prepped and ready to enter the mullet comp fray.
Anyone can enter on show day Saturday, the only criteria is of course a home grown mullet ... so no wigs or hair extensions.
Categories are Baby Bombers [0 to 7-year-old]; Juniors [8 to 12-year-olds]; Seniors [13 to 18-year-olds]; Best Female Mullet [girls of any age]; and Old Bogan [aged over 18-years-old].
No pre-nominations are necessary just come to the netball courts before 4pm on show day Saturday as that’s when judging starts.
The winners in each class will be awarded a medal, a haircut voucher, and a Bombers trucker hat presented by 2023 Boonah Showgirl, Emily Gray.
Show rosettes will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters.
