Countering the pest solution that became an even bigger pest problem

Before cane toads were the enemy, they were supposed to be a crop saving hero. 

Native to South and Central America, cane toads were introduced into Australia to control destructive beetles in Queensland’s sugarcane crops.

However, the voracious amphibian unfortunately became a pest in itself. 

According to the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment cane toads have fully expanded through Australia’s northern landscape and they are now moving westward at an estimated 40 to 60 kilometres every year.
