Let’s celebrate Christmas Street Festival returns

THE Boonah Christmas Street Festival is back after a three-year hiatus due to Covid restrictions.
On Thursday, December 15, Santa and a slew of fun and festive floats will parade down the town’s main street in a celebration of all things Christmas.
The Boonah District Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual street festival and this year the chosen theme is ‘Let’s Celebrate!’.
The annual event has become a ‘must do’ on the calendar of many families with local business joining in and getting creative with floats, in store competitions and other festive fun.
The festival has been running for more than 30 years and Chamber President Joe Worley said he had happy childhood memories of the event.
“It’s always been a night where you watch the parade, enjoy rides, eat hot food and get your Christmas shopping done,” he said.
“I remember attending the parade when I was a boy. Anyone who has just moved to the town probably doesn’t know what it’s all about because it’s not been on for three years.
“We are really looking forward to bringing it back and welcoming the whole community.”
Mr Worley said the event has always drawn a big crowd.
“I’ve always loved watching Dovers drive their farm machinery down the street and seeing the dance groups,” he said.
“Once the parade is over spectators are able to get some Christmas shopping done and eat hot food from a food stall or the town’s cafes and restaurants or watch a street performer.”
Kids are taken care of with face painting, an animal nursery and free rides.
“We also have some community bands that will be playing adding to the festive feel,” he said.
And he’s encouraging any businesses or individuals who would like to be part of the parade to sign up now for the big event.
There will be a prize for Best Community Float and Best Business Float.
Floats will begin making their way to Park Street from the showground at 5.30pm.
