Worm juice rocket fuel for gardens

WORM wee, worm juice or worm tea is a liquid concentrate from worm compost.
It’s an incredibly rich liquid fertilizer that provides a natural and organic way to create healthy, fertile soil.
Despite its name, it’s not urine. It’s another name for worm farm leachate which is the excess liquid run off collected in the bottom of a worm bin.
It provides billions of good microbes such as fungi, and helpful, nitrogen-fixing bacteria for plants.
Having a worm farm and collecting the juice is a quick and easy way to produce plant fertiliser.
Keen gardeners often refer to it as liquid gold, preferring it to chemical fertilisers. It is also a natural insect repellent.
Worm juice generally takes a few weeks to start flowing and will increase as you add more food. Worm farms also produce solid worm castings that can be harvested and used as a powerful nutrient additive for the soil.
Each batch takes about 24 hours to produce (depending on farm size) and can last up to three months.
Worm farm juice can be high in ammonia and must be diluted with water (one part worm juice to 10 parts water) before applying to plants.
Adding a continuous supply of oxygen will significantly increase the number of good microbes in the worm juice.
To oxygenate you’ll need a fish tank air pump and some accessories. Once the collected mixture is ready to brew, drop the air stone into the bucket and let it bubble overnight.
