There was barely room to move at the Boonah Rodeo on Friday night as the stands packed out with spectators.
The bulls proved to be too much of a struggle for the open and novice riders and no scores were made.
Organiser Carol Bostock said, as was tradition, all the bulls that were ridden were from tough stock.
The Saddle riders had a little more luck in the Arena with first place going to Ipswich’s Jack Capewell scoring 70 points and Argentinian Ricky Massola walking into second place with 39 points.
But it was the young riders whose talent shone on the night with junior steer rider Brumby McWhirter achieving a super ride.
The open barrel race was also hotly contested with half a second being all that separated the top four riders, all women.
Ian Bostock was on the microphone all night keeping the crowds entertained while they waited for the next riders to come out.
“The rodeo has its own momentum going and I just keep it going and help it along a little bit but with this sort of rodeo it's a bull and bronc rather than a full rodeo where there’s time events,” Ian said.
“It was good having my little sidekick whip cracker Tilly here by my side tonight, she's just started but she’s got a good feel for it.”
Matilda Bostock, 9, is the third generation of the Mutdapilly family to enter the rodeo arena and entering the ring in front of hundreds of spectators to crack her whips is only her second favourite part of the night.
The best part of the night is watching mum compete in the barrel race.
