THE Boonah Golf Club has received some major renovations as players enjoy the warmer weather and some challenging competitions.
The recent Ladies Open Day attracted 62 players from 22 clubs around the region from as far away as Chinchilla, Bulimba and Pittsworth.
Overall winner was City Golf Club member Jenny Cross (pictdured) on 40 points.
Judy Logan, from Laidley, won the A-Grade title [33 points on a countback] under the graded stableford format.
Boonah club president Bernice Dover shared in the success as B-Grade winner with 39 points in a competition promoting fun and friendship.
“It was nice to see such support from other clubs and to see how women in golf supported each other,” Dover said.
“It was great to see a number of beginners participating in the competition.”
Such was the involvement from other clubs, Dover was the only Boonah representative on the winner’s list.

The C-Grade winner was Wendy Ellis, from the SGA Golf Club, with 38 points.
Dover said she was pleased to hear positive comments about the course and greens.
That followed a number of recent projects improving the course through a Community and Recreational Assets Recovery and Resilience Program grant.
Among the upgrades were fairway renovations, which included scarifying, aerating and fertilising.
“The fairways will be in a better position to tolerate the predicted dry weather coming up,” Dover said.
“The grant has been a tremendous bonus.”
Work over the past two months also stabilised most of the water hazards, including the main gully and dam.
She said the recent work was beneficial after the major impacts of Covid, flooding and erosion over the past few years.
In her third year as club president, Dover thanked the volunteers who have been painting the course sand containers and out of bound posts, and also updating distance markers.
“We are in the process now of renovating the greens, which isn’t part of the grant,” Dover said.
“They should be in tip-top shape and we do get very positive feedback about it, that’s for sure.”
The club has also secured a new Polaris remote vehicle, with turf tyres, to improve access around the scenic nine-hole course.
