THE ongoing progress of girls’ sport at Boonah State High School (BSHS) is providing some positive signs for the future.
BSHS netball and volleyball teams have made impressive gains or shared in recent winning efforts.
The school’s undefeated senior girls’ netball side is preparing for the Metro finals carnival in Ipswich on August 25 after winning the Combined Secondary School Sport Association (CISSSA) grand final.
BSHS beat Bremer State High 35-10 in the CISSSA decider after solid efforts against schools like St Peter Claver College, Ipswich State High and St Mary’s during the winter competition.
A number of the netballers play in the Fassifern and Ipswich association competitions, bringing their talents to the school courts.
The Boonah senior team will meet other regional final winners at the Metros carnival.
Boonah’s Grade 10 girls team (pictured) also reached the CISSSA grand final, losing their only game by three points in a nail-biting finish.
In volleyball, BSHS’s junior girls’ team played their best game in the Queensland Secondary School grand final competition at the Gold Coast, losing two sets to one.
Most impressive about the junior volleyballers (pictured below) was their improvement on the previous season where they didn’t win a game.
BSHS Head of HPE Jai Yong Gee said it was fantastic to see girls’ school teams reaching new heights in sport.
“It is promising going forward,” Yong Gee said.
“Just a bit more of a focus, which is good.
“There’s been some success around that getting kids back into sport and getting them going again.”
