Golf excitement hots up at Boonah course
1 min read

BOONAH Golf Club members and visitors are in for an exciting cluster of competition if the latest championship event is any indication.

Partners Dot Wall and Brendan Beasley won the Mixed Foursomes on the second playoff hole after Seren McKenzie and Paul McNiven were tied with them on 125 off the stick.

Beasley sunk the winning putt in the thrilling finish.

Club member McKenzie returned from Townsville to contest the play.

Wall is a Boonah club life member.

The male and female golfers played alternate strokes under the 27-hole format at the annual event.

The Mixed Foursomes provided a major boost in interest as  Boonah club officials prepare for a series of events throughout August and into the warmer months.

That includes a Furniture Court-sponsored open charity day on August 29 where golfers will vie for $9000 in prizes.

Proceeds from the day will support juniors at the Fassifern Bombers rugby league club.

“This is another example of businesses and sports clubs helping one another,” Boonah Club president Bernice Dover said.

The Boonah Golf Club donates $10 for every player on the day.

The Boonah club is also preparing to stage the Beryl Drady match play competition for women with the finals at the end of August.

On September 10, a return match is organised between the Beaudesert and Boonah ladies at Beaudesert. They are playing for the Coulter Cup.

An Open Day on September 21 will feature participants from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Lockyer Valley and the Scenic Rim.
