Roses flourish in Fassifern tennis final
1 min read

THE Roses blossomed at the right time of the year to win the latest Fassifern Tennis Association Wednesday Ladies final.

The Roses team, led by Rachael McNiven, beat Lillies 36-15 on the Boonah courts.

McNiven was joined by Kit Krause and Carol Pocock.

The Lillies team (pictured) was captained by Bernie Blair, with teammate Robynne Picton and Sally Whittle.

Regional tennis enthusiast Maz Verrall was delighted with the latest round of games, played in ideal conditions.

“It was a blowout score but there were some really good rallies between both the teams,” she said.

“It was just the Roses won the vital points.”

As a regular player for the past six years, Maz appreciated having newcomers like Robynne Picton and Kaylene Turner involved in the mid-week competition.

“They were so positive and so happy to be part of the teams,” she said.

The next Wednesday Ladies series is set to start in March next year.

“It’s much more than just tennis,” Maz said.

“It’s great getting us together and it’s good tennis and great tucker.”

Maz is legendary in tennis circles for bringing along home-made treats and special cakes to enjoy after a hit.

The Fassifern Tennis Association’s Sunday mixed competition continues until November.
